The Schueco Excellence Awards sponsored by RIBA J recognise and celebrate architects and specialist contractors alike that have developed innovative solutions with the use of Schueco systems.  Colorminium entered projects in 3 categories – Education, Commercial and Specialist contractor which are judged by Hugh Pearman (editor of the RIBA Journal, architecture critic of the Sunday Times and an honorary fellow of the RIBA), Paul Monaghan (director of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris), Joanna Bacon (managing partner of Allies and Morrison) and Jose Silva Hernandez-Gil (associate at Duggan Morris).

With a hugely varied selection of buildings put forward from across the UK, Ross Price and Kieran Mallinson were present as Colorminium swooped to victory to bag 1 of the 8 awards and also a commendation.  The Jewish Community Centre was voted as winner of the Education award with the judges praising the ‘calm and restrained nature of the building’.  Judging chair Hugh Pearman commented that ‘Given the huge security aspects, to achieve the level of elegance in a blast resistant façade is quite something’.

Architects Lifschutz Sandilands Davidson took the award in the Commercial sector for Bonhams Headquarters with Colorminium taking the Commendation for excellence in design and installation.  The judges were impressed with both the harmonious integration of the various buildings and the precise detailing.  ‘It’s an amazing transformation for Bonhams….a most elegant solution that is very crisply detailed’ said judge Jo Bacon.

Bonhams has subsequently been shortlisted for the 2015 RIBA Stirling Prize.
