Located on the western side of Blackfriars Road, the former social security office has been replaced with a mixed-use hotel and office space.

Key Challenges

  • Fully glazed package to all areas including rooftop unitised system.
  • High specification glass and product finishes.
  • Off-site installation for all windows into pre-cast panels.

The Brief

Employed by contractor Kier and working alongside award winning architects Lifschutz Davidson Sandlands, Colorminium had detailed involvement in the development and assessment of various design options to assist in bringing this scheme to fruition.

Our Approach

Working closely with the pre-cast concrete specialist, the concrete frame building is clad in off site fabricated panels which the windows were installed into.  A closely co-ordinated design process with the panel manufacturer enabled us to close the building up quickly giving an instant watertight façade for the fit-out to commence.

To the ground level, bespoke glazing systems give a shop-front appearance which open up the retail spaces to the public. A mixture of sliding systems, automated doors and architectural metalwork is a fitting design to the pre-cast areas above.

At the top levels, a unitised system was installed with integral sliding doors and a plant screen clad in zinc. Architectural metalwork finishes off the top elements giving an enclosed system.

The Result

Completed in late 2019, the finished project is stunning and a testament to the hard work done at design stage.
