Some great insights from Caleb, our Design Director, who attended the CWCT AGM yesterday, focusing in on the key topics affecting facades both now and in the future.
The major implications of the Building Safety Act (and particularly Gateway 2) were debated with the level of detail required for a submission, risk of Gateway 2 rejection and implications of change being key factors which will reshape the way facades are procured and delivered for HRB’s.
Fire engineering was another focus, with a collaborative and detailed approach recommended to ensure risks are met proportionally. It is excellent to see a further 4 technical notes coming from CWCT to provide much needed guidance and consistency.
The drive for sustainable buildings also flowed through the day. Doing more with less should be our goal, and a number of reporting tools and guidance to assist in the journey were presented.
Looking to the future a fascinating future façade workflow was presented, showing how technology and AI could be used in almost every step of the process from concept design through to a completed building with a golden thread of information. Over the past 2 years there have been significant strides in technology, and it was eye opening to see how much is already available.
It was great to connect with industry peers and gain insights on how we can prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead. Looking forward to applying these takeaways to future projects!
